Curating a positive digital community for Mocha Lifestyle transcends our online presence and carries over into how we cultivate our social media communities as well. Case in point, we follow KyMiko Naturals on Instagram and the sheer amount of positive encouragement and inspiration that blesses our feed is definitely share worthy. Getting to know the founder behind the natural body care line and motivating posts was definitely high on my list of must-dos.
Tell us about yourself?
I am passionate about helping others which is one of the reasons I started my business. I have always been creative, and I think that translates into my business concepts.
Can you tell us about your business?
My business is based on providing people with natural herbs and botanicals for their skincare needs and educating them on the benefits of using the gifts of Mother Nature. We are adamant about providing the freshest products possible and for that reason, our products are made fresh to order without using any harmful chemicals such as artificial preservatives, artificial colorants, and artificial fragrances.
We also aim to encourage others to define their own Beauty. We want our customers to take care of their external and internal being. Beauty is not one size fits all and we encourage individuals to find what makes you feel beautiful Inside.
How did you get started?
I started the business by educating myself as much as possible and also relying on all the lessons about herbs I learned throughout my upbringing. My Jamaican upbringing has allowed me to really rely on the herbs that I was so accustomed to, to help with skincare needs.
When did you decide that it was the right time to start a business and what led to that decision?
The concept for the business was started when I decided to become a vegetarian and really started evaluating what I was using on my skin, as well as my son’s. We both have always had sensitive skin and realized that there were only certain products I could use on our skin and when I started dissecting the ingredients list of products I was using, I became alarmed.
The light bulb went off and I decided that I wanted to create products that would be safe for my family to use, as well as provide something to others who were also seeking natural, clean products – products that didn’t hinder the fidelity of the item by adding in things such as artificial ingredients.
Everything we need has been gifted to us by Mother Nature and this is what I use as the foundation for our products. Ingredients that are safe to consume, as well as use externally.
What do you want to ultimately see happen with your business?
I ultimately see the business also progressing to include a nonprofit organization that is geared towards wellness. I am most passionate about helping others which is why I am so big on the education aspect. My goal is for the business to progress in a manner where I am able to provide education on wellness and impact the community in which I reside.
What advice would you give another woman, specifically a BIPOC woman looking to turn her passion into a business?
My advice would be to stay consistent and go for it. If it is something you are passionate about and you are willing to be consistent, put aside the fear and the ‘what if’s’ and go for it. KyMiko Naturals wouldn’t be here today if I didn’t take that leap and make the decision to start this business.
Anything else that you wish to share?
This process of being an entrepreneur has not been easy and there have been plenty of times that I felt it wasn’t going as I planned, but I wouldn’t replace or change this experience for anything. Starting this business has really allowed me to see how resilient I am. It has also allowed me to share with others what I am passionate about and that has been the most rewarding. Even if I am able to help one person either with skincare needs or just identifying their self-worth, then my journey was well worth it.
