If one thing’s for sure over the last few months, it’s that our home has become more important than ever. Our spaces impact our creativity, mental health–and really our whole lives. Here are some tips to make your space the most inviting, peaceful, and creativity-inducing it can be.
Plants and greenery are a must!
It’s well-documented that having plants in the home can produce not only the obvious aesthetic boost, but many physical benefits too. The Peace Lily–aptly named–is known to filter out toxic substances that may be floating in the air. With its elegant white flowers and deep green leaves, this plant is a great choice for the bedroom, adding a simplistic beauty to the space.
Orchids, too, improve air quality while simultaneously acting as natural decor and offering the chance for a pop of color. An added bonus of relieving stress makes this type of plant an even more enticing choice for an at-home office or workspace.
For a purely green option, English Ivy works beautifully as well. Great for hanging with cascading leaves flowing down, this plant removes mold and promotes a natural-feeling and peaceful environment. Real greenery of basically any kind is sure to promote wellness in the home both visually and physically.
Stick to a basic color palette
Of course your space should be an expression of your own taste, but sticking to a general set of colors can make a room feel cohesive and welcoming. Natural tones have been a recent favorite of mine–burnt oranges and deep greens with pops of gold (of course adorned with a few plants) is a great base for those who find peace in an earthy vibe.
A separate palette that’s best for those who tend to be more anxious is blue hues with accents of white. Research supports that blue promotes stress relief, so having a deep blue rug complimented by wall hangings with a white frame and a blue art pattern could be a lifesaver in the home office.
By no means should you have a personality-free space! Placing your favorite photos and keepsakes on display can help to keep your home feeling uniquely yours. But it’s important to note, that a smattering of too many different colors can overstimulate, distract, and take away from what could be a soothing space. Keep your decor cohesive!
Pops of personality
While basic cohesion is important, statement pieces that speak to you are key to keeping a space comforting. Your space is yours, and putting the decor that’s nearest and dearest to you in focus maintains the sense of home. Avoid going overboard on these, though.
Your chosen color palette maintains the streamlined and peaceful feel that allows your piece(s) to pop. You can incorporate a unique bright red vase or a set of yellow flowers in a room that is centered around a more natural palette. These are simple ways to easily balance personality with soothing design.
If you have an attachment to a specific art piece, buy a print and frame it! We all have our own favorite pop that speaks to us. Give yours the prominence it deserves in your space to bring you comfort and happiness.
There’s never been a better time to revamp your space. Reducing clutter of too many colors and designs to let your natural plants and favorite pieces shine will streamline your creative processes and help you feel at peace at home.
